How to Make TOU Programs Successful Using Behavioral Solutions

In collaboration with Oracle Utilities, BGE launched a new behavioral approach that helps shift load when it matters most. (April 2020)

FAQ

Date: April 2020

Utilities are in need of a new and effective approach to engage their time-of-use (TOU) program customers. Information available about TOU program benefits and the rates can be overly complex and is often ineffective in persuading customers to shift their load and reduce peak demand. In addition, a lack of awareness and education about such programs can often lead to a decrease in customer satisfaction, low participation rates, and increases in customer Call Center calls.

During this session, attendees learn how, in collaboration with Oracle Utilities, BGE launched a new behavioral approach that helps shift load when it matters most.

This session covers topics including:

  • Research that supports how TOU rates can have a limited impact on peak reduction without customer enabling technology.
  • Methods for amplifying the effect of multi-channel communications, and for engaging and educating TOU customers about the ways they use their energy, their rates, and the cost implications of their choices.
