For nearly two decades, Seattle City Light (SCL) has been focused on eliminating racial disparities to achieve equity through the city’s Race and Social Justice Initiative. Therefore, when SCL designed its first DR pilot, TempWise, a key goal was to understand participation barriers and test strategies to remove them. Leading up to the launch of TempWise, SCL’s consultant team of ICF and Kambo engaged with leaders of fourteen community-based organizations from Seattle’s environmental justice communities. Through interviews with these leaders, SCL gained critical insights on the language, housing type, and income barriers that make DR participation difficult for their community members. This presentation will share the findings from SCL’s interviews to help PLMA members incorporate equity into their programs. SCL will present the barriers and opportunities to expand TempWise into a more inclusive and accessible DR program, including the development and deployment of marketing materials in additional mediums and languages.
